OPTIMA Roasted Barley

Initially, it was used in strong porters (or “porter stouts”) as a substitute for more expensive roasted barley malt. Over time, its taste and aroma have become a distinguishing feature of classic and imperial stouts. Formerly used to give the beer a dark, intense, opaque colour, roasted barley is now appreciated for its aroma.

Typically used in all classic and imperial stouts at no more than 10 percent of the grist. Nowadays, due to the interest of consumers, it is also becoming more popular in Baltic porters and other dark beers.
